Prophecies of Nostradamus

Secrets of the seer: Delving into Nostradamus's prophecies

Nostradamus, the renowned French astrologer and physician, gained notoriety for his written work, particularly the collection of prophecies known as Les Propheties. These prophetic verses, originally published in 1555, contained cryptic quatrains arranged into ten sets of verses, each consisting of 100 quatrains.

Open book facsimile of the Prophecies of Nostradamus, (Biblioteca Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Tratado Apocalíptico 1594) bound in natural tool-stamped leather on wooden board with clasp.

Nostradamus wrote these prophecies in a blend of French, Greek, Latin, and Occitan languages, a strategic choice that some suggest was to make interpretation challenging and thereby avoid persecution by the Holy Inquisition.

The posthumous fourth edition of Les Propheties, released in 1568, became the most comprehensive collection. It has continuously remained in print and has garnered enduring popularity across generations. Followers of Nostradamus often claim that his verses foretold various historical events, lending to the mystique and fascination surrounding his work.

The 1594 edition of Nostradamus’s prophecies is a notable example, presented in Latin and Spanish and translated by Amadeo Taboada Cid. This edition features fifty-four vivid illustrations and charts, making it an extraordinary addition to the Royal Library Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Housed in an embossed brown leather binding, this extensive work spans nearly one thousand pages, showcasing a meticulously designed representation of one of history’s most renowned prophetic texts.

The facsimile edition of the Prophecies of Nostradamus is complemented by a bookcase for its conservation and a complementary study book made by subject matter experts.

This facsimile is a unique edition of 995 books numbered and authenticated by notarial deed.
