This has been arranged in two columns, over 567 pages, in which the reader will find the story of all the adventures and misfortunes of this well-known nobleman.

This edition of Don Quixote de la Mancha has a size of 35 x 25 cm and has been hand-bound in full-grain leather with gold stamping. Each copy carries a notarial certificate authenticating the limited and unrepeatable edition of the book.

The spirit of this edition is to allow the reader to enjoy, while contemplating contemporary painting, one of the great classics of our universal literature.

During the presentation, which took place at the Reina Sofia Museum, Rafael Canogar commented that many editions and translations of Cervantes’ work have been published and that his images have been used on thousands of occasions. “Despite this, and the fact that sometimes this use has been done in a bastardized, caricatured way, the quality of this great work and the interest in it has not diminished”.

The artist said he accepted the challenge aware of the difficulties but determined to give it an approach of total freedom, away from established ideas and breaking with customary pigeonholing. “I thought that images of wrinkled garments could be representative of the figures of Don Quixote and Sancho, while the logo for the celebration of the 4th Centenary of the publication of the work would represent the windmills”.

Rafael Canogar said he had approached the work with “a spirit of novelty and playfulness. Cervantes’ characters are absolutely new; the writer had no precedents to create his characters, but I did have too many that did not work for me and that is why I have broken with that tradition to create other new ways”.

This edition of Don Quixote and Canogar comes complete with a luxurious slipcase for its preservation. It consists of a single numbered edition of 299 copies, duly authenticated by notary duly authenticated with a notary’s certificate.
